ToT course on industrial mariculture ^ for the first group of Vietnam’s lecturers

Human resource is considered as one of the most decisive inputs for success and sustainable development of mariculture.

Manpower working in the field are required to be competent enough before engaging in a risky industry. For that reason, VSA has worked very hard to establish a solid strategy for raising the human resource quality in mariculture, priotirizing two pilars: mariculture workers and farm managers, who need to be skillful, knowledgeable, professional, specialized and certificated rather than spontaneously growing up.

In 2018, during the two short-day training courses at Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) and Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa Province), the learners already had chance to acquire fundamental knowledge in mariculture via advanced textbooks, technical papers, and lectures by the leading scholars and experts, both in Vietnam and abroad.

Concurrently, they could meet and directly interact with the delegates from famous links of Norwegian mariculture’s value chain, such as Val College of Aquaculture, Steinvik (fish-farming equipment vendor), Pharmaq (vaccine producer), etc.

Therefore, this year’s program was just a continuity to help the learners self-enlarge their views through field trips to the 2 enterprises. (Tran Phu Co. Ltd and Ngoc Hien Pearl Co., Ltd.), study from their successes, failures, opportunities and challenges - in regard to the procedures of business registration, permission, equipments import, hatchery, fishfed, farm operation, devices management, etc.

In addition, VSA also hold a talk for the learners to share information, experience and concern with scientists, experts, entrepreneurs, farmers, and potential investors who wished to involve in the Vietnamese mariculture’s value chain, e.g. Ching Fa Fishing Implements Factory Co., Ltd. (Taiwan), Vietnam-Germany University (VGU), Reeco Co., Ltd., Lyson Seafood Trading JSC, Asia Eco & Environment, etc.

After the course, thanked to those meaningful activities, most learners appeared to be more confident and felt ready for the upcoming challenges in marine farming; some even said they would love to participate in the future’s similar programs. Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Ba Thong - Vice Director of Seaculture Science and Technology Center (SSTC) under VSA, committed that the association would make every effort to play the role of a bridge and catalyst to empower the business community, in order to drive Vietnamese mariculture aggressively compete and deeply integrate into the world economy, as well as contribute to the sacred mission of protecting sovereignty.
